Came into this not knowing the structure - the incredible second half elevated this from entertaining to profound for me.  Beautiful and clear-eyed movie about human nature that I’ll definitely be watching again.

I loved this!  Disorienting in an engrossing way, great use of music, and captivating performances (especially in the second story).  There are no other romantic comedies like this one - and so glad I got to see it for the first time in a full theater.

Soul is a perfect example of why plot isn’t the most important element of a great movie.  Even though I knew where this was going right from the beginning, the combination of endlessly inventive visual ideas and a killer Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross score elevated the whole enterprise.  We really shouldn’t take the incredible run (25 years!) Pixar has been on for granted - this is a genuinely touching film that isn’t quite in the highest tier of their work for me - but pretty close.  It’s also one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year!

Given the shared director/composer DNA - makes sense that this is essentially Rocky for kids. Like that movie - the time it takes on character-building makes the payoff worth it (although it does end kind of abruptly after that climactic kick). A breezy watch that held up surprisingly well.
