  I feel like I almost liked this but it completely runs out of steam or momentum around the 40 minute mark and I was actively despairing when I realized this was not an hour 40 like I thought it was going in, but a full two hours.   Man, this is kind of a tough one, do you think Svengoolie's ever shown Svengali?

  Anyway, Criterion mentions there are definitely some anti-semitic overtones with Svengali's character in this, and it's definitely there.
