In Battle of Algiers, it was right wing extremists who planted bombs in cafes before the insurgency became violent.

Key flashbacks in this film suggest a structural form of multinational corporate violence has taken hold of the land and bodies of its thinly sketched cast of characters. While it’s not subtle, it’s still interesting.

Ultimately kind of an attempt (successful or not) at a hybrid of reviving the ethos of Third Cinema filtered through the indie darling aesthetic

Every time I think I wanted more from this, some wild scene or shot or edit comes to mind like an intrusive thought, and I think: okay, they did do that.

Then I remember the gleeful references to The Shining and Fargo that came within ten minutes of each other, and those stand on top of the inventive homages to the OG Evil Dead. There’s a lot of love for genre here. Well done.
