Mickey 17 2025
Man, I loved so much of this, and it’s not nearly as messy as some people would have you believe. Although I could see certain aspects (cgi, voiceover, etc.) being a turn-off for some people. But I enjoyed it way more than expected, it’s kind of cathartic now that Trump won even though it was clearly made under the assumption he would lose. Some hilarious moments too, the dinner scene was incredible.

Anora 2024
I usually have a tough time getting into movies where the main characters are all either unlikable or irrational.. like most humans I guess. But this is so technically well executed that I was still invested. Plus it genuinely felt so good to have some time to breathe and recuperate near the end, it’s such an accomplishment to create that sort of feeling.

Trap 2024
Never fails to shock me when I watch the latest great Shyamalan movie and then open up Letterboxd to see it has a 2.7 rating. This was tons of fun with some genuinely hilarious acting choices, mostly by Hartnett, although the tea kettle fake-out was probably my favorite bit. Perhaps a bit long towards the end but it’s insane to me that this is rated so poorly. You guys know it’s supposed to be funny, right?

Barbie 2023
Had so much fun watching this, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are probably two of the funniest writers working in Hollywood right now. I always thought that filling a movie with pop culture references was annoying rather than funny, but for some reason they worked for me here. Was also pleasantly surprised at the lack of cringe-worthy lines, although some of the dialogue was pretty over-the-top.
Loved the visual style of Barbieland, and the Charli XCX song rocked. One of my favorite Margot Robbie performances but I’m afraid Ryan Gosling cleared 😬
