  - 2021’s “Dune” does the seemingly impossible; Denis Villeneuve takes the complex nature of the 1965 novel of the same name and fleshes out the world in an effective way with no noticeable exposition dumps. We learn about the world of “Dune” through the characters and their happenstance conversations about the world around them, making the world-building organic, easy to comprehend, and fun.

  LIKES…
  - Visually, the film is amongst Wes Anderson’s best. Every inch of the screen is a technical marvel; truly perfect visual storytelling here.
  - The film is fast-paced and charmingly witty (as is to be expected with a Wes Anderson film).
  - The anthology format is a refreshing change of structure for Anderson and mostly works for what he’s going for here. In addition, the framing device for the vignettes is creative despite its flaws.

  LIKES...
  - Overall an effective, fun-to-watch slasher in the tradition of 1970s and 1980s horror camp
  - Extremely well-paced
  - Very good makeup effects from Stan Winston (no surprise there)
  - Decent scares and tension 

  DISLIKES...
  - While effective, the film is very cliche and never really attempts to approach its common horror tropes in any subversive ways
  - The characters in the film are pretty flat and surface-level

  CONCLUSION...
  Wrong Turn is a pretty high recommend for fans of the horror genre (especially if you enjoy slashers). Don’t expect anything super special in terms of story or new concepts but this 2003 bloodbath has just enough to satisfy.
