  This is an absolutely horrifying yet beautiful masterpiece of a film. The way it deals with the violence, the unsatisfying ending, and the fact that it actually happens is brilliant. Robert Downey Jr. puts in an amazing performance as Paul Avery, the alcoholic wasted crime reporter. Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Graysmith is another amazing performance and character here.
