Best child acting performance I’ve seen since Cinema Paradiso. In a film where Scarlett Johansson, Taika Waititi and Sam Rockwell are at the absolute peak of their game, Roman Griffin David and Thomasin McKenzie shine through and raise the film from charming status to carrying true emotional weight. Roman in particular sells the inability of a young boy to truly understand the world around him in a way that shows an understand of empathy far beyond his years. Can’t believe…

Ben-Hur 1959
Incredible in scope and spectacle, but melodramatic and plodding to an extent I can’t justify or accept as the cost of a religious epic. Especially compared to other epics of the time (Spartacus, Lawrence of Arabia especially), Ben-Hur markedly comes up short in my opinion. Still worth watching to appreciate all that it does do extremely well.
