Pariah— ‘an outcast’
Dee Rees paints an uncomfortably realistic depiction of a young girl grappling gender identity, sexuality, and family conflict. This is definitely my favourite film we’ve screened at spike6 thus far. By refraining too much from personal experience, the character Alike and her family dynamic felt incredibly close to home; I applaud Rees on her realistic yet charming and unconventional take on girlhood.
