Ralph Fiennes sparkles in a gruelingly slow, yet tension charged plot. A runaway train only going ten miles an hour. The visual style is a beaming spectacle and the score is quite powerful. Except it’s not the most unique sound I’ve heard; on the mark, not out of the box. Definitely worth a watch, or maybe even two, but a best picture is leap. Not a far jump, although a jump nonetheless. That being said, it’s a creative recipe that I greatly appreciate.

The recent influx of biopics have been diluting cinemas with under deliverance, repetitive storytelling, and award nomination bait. While Timothee Chalamet proves his talent in an incredible performance, A Complete Unknown wrestles to stand out.

Romance isn’t thriving. Music is hitting, but not sticking. A dense supporting cast isn’t leaving a lasting impression. I’m not very cultured in the areas of Bob Dylan’s life, but I cannot be convinced that this been-there, done-that film is all that can be told. I’m way below wowed, except I can’t convince myself to be any harsher.

    Super 8

    ★★★½

That was the most dramatic train derailment I’ve ever seen.

Quality is questionable, but the idea is the saving grace in Super 8. Acting is mediocre, cinematography is generic, and the special effects are over-the-top. It probably should’ve only been ninety minutes, yet still survivable. Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning give some good performances, except that’s only on occasion. An eerie atmosphere manages to thrive in this small town mystery. JJ Abrams attempts to revive 80’s sci-fi nostalgia, which I respect, but unfortunately I don’t have any personal connection. Although, it is very cool to see the primary inspiration behind the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things.

Shockingly hilarious and unexpectedly memorable. Although, the mystery is a tad weak and runs a smidge long.

I still like Ryan Gosling’s mustache too

The plot is all over the place and I’m not even sure where it really landed. Flooded with symbolism that goes unexplored. Mickey 17 seemingly dabbles in themes Bong Joon-ho has already visited only to deliver lesser clarity. He attempts to speak on topics such as exotic animals, genetic modification, political hierarchy, judicial branches, ethics, class conflict, and more. However, they stay so surface level that any sense of message or stance can barely be deciphered. It can’t even pick…

I had written two page essay as my review, but I deleted because I felt my words couldn’t do it justice. Easily the most difficult reflection I’ve had to construct. Constant revision and I never found a way to describe Adolescence. I even rewrote this little bit more than once.

What a heart wrenching watch. This is perhaps the most powerful series ever made.
