A film about loneliness and the human condition, nothing surprising from Hideaki Anno. It’s so visceral, I lost track that I was watching a movie and to me that’s the beauty of it. One of those movies that feel like genius but I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend to anyone I know.

Very mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand, it is well acted and I thoroughly enjoyed and was immersed for the majority of the movie.
The problems arise towards the end with some questionable writing and directorial choices. The world is not real, it is a work of fiction, therefore the characters have no fault in how they behave; the biases and thoughts of the director seemingly show through in what is highlighted and rewarded at the end of the story.
