  This movie feels like an alien’s idea of a human town during Christmas. Everything is oddly sterile feeling. Tonally it’s confusing, seeming like it’s trying to be funny, scary, and sentimental all at once. Joel McHale is miscast and underutilized.

  A visionary technical achievement that still looks mind blowing 55 years after it was released. An unconventional first act is essentially an art film with no dialogue or main characters. It’s challenging to watch but it sets up what is to come. The traditional narrative starts in the 2nd act and is an exercise in how to build tension over an entire act.
