This was incredibly bleak and surprisingly relatable to some current issues. I understood many of the messages in the film but definitely feel that I need to read the book to get more of a full picture with the smaller details.
The cinematography and production design are very good, devoid of colour, personality and warmth which all adds to the bleakness.
I'm considering watching the earlier Peter Cushing version of 1984 but I would be surprised if it was better than this one.

It's hard to follow the first infernal affairs film, particularly when you are losing Andy Lau and Tony Leung as they are replaced by their younger counterparts in this prequel film, but this is actually a solid film and I really liked the two main actors.

I don't understand the low ratings at all.
