    A remote island is "gifted" a child with miraculous healing abilities. So you can pretty much assume something is going to go wrong. And boy does it ever.

    This scrappy film was shot beautifully, using Newfoundland as it back drop for a fictional island. We truly get to know the core group of characters well enough to care about their wants, needs, hopes, and choices. Those choices tear apart the entire community and spiral into a tragic end.

    I really enjoyed the setup of this film. The slow burn pacing was right up my alley as well, and kept the suspense palpable that even though it was 3 characters in seemingly one location the whole time, it FLEW by in the best of ways.

    While there were some leaps in logic to be made for some of the plot points, the cast was incredible. The arguments on religion were fantastic, and it never became to preachy.

    I talked about this movie with a friend for almost an hour after seeing it. That, to me, is always the most important sign of a success. I also recently lost a parent, so movies like this hit harder now more than ever.

    The writing, acting, and directing are absolutely stellar. Special shoutout to Callina Liang and Chris Sullivan for giving this their all. And Lucy Liu has a moment, at the very end, that literally left me breathless.
