I think it’s interesting that until I saw “1980” carved into a gravestone in the films final minutes, I never really wondered when this was set, I’d just assumed 2007. I’d seen it before so presumably at one point I knew it wasn’t contemporary, and there’s a few references to Vietnam that hint towards this taking place in the past, but everything about it feels achingly modern. Maybe it always will.

Maybe, for the rest of its history the United…

You do stuff, you feel stuff, and you make other people feel stuff. If you feel something strongly enough you might just make something expressing how you feel, and if you’re lucky then someone else might notice and if you’re even luckier then they might feel stuff as well.

Simultaneously the least I’ve connected with this of my 3 watches and the one where it’s the most apparent to me that this is a masterpiece. I think back on every aspect of this far too much for it to not be one. The score and cinematography alone are constantly lurking in the back of my mind, but the last couple of months story and characters have often been at the forefront.

Also, halfway through the movie one of my friends (and it’s not the one you’d expect) exclaimed “I’m not usually attracted to Asians, but she’s very hot.”

Really though, possibly my biggest film hot take is that the Russo’s aren’t complete hacks. They’re not great directors, but they’re not incompetency incarnate. As much as…

It’s a cool story and all with a strong opening and decent score, but everything is presented in such a matter-of-fact way that it quickly becomes extremely disagreeable and ruins any existential momentum it had built up.

As a mostly Creationist Christian I have no problem calling this what it is: idiotic, manipulative, propaganda.

Doesn’t matter what side of this issue you fall on, going to the old Nazi base was incredibly manipulative and honestly a bit repulsive, a 7 year old child could’ve conducted a better final interview, and this is just genuinely poor filmmaking.
