Maurice 1987
After having read the book, the adaptation was beautiful to watch. The changes weren’t too drastic, and the ending sequence was my favourite! I loved the way they drew parallels at the end with Cambridge Maurice waving goodbye to older Clive. It felt right to have that ending, especially because it was so important in the novel as well.
I did miss the scene where Maurice suffers from having told Clive “Oh, rot!” after his confession. It made the “I love you” more abrupt and bland. But that is a mere detail.

i’m not going to lie, i really dislike horror movies bc i always end up traumatised, and this movie was no different, but i didn’t hate it.
it was a really interesting story and well-built. the religious context was also really interesting and made it even more uncanny than it already was. the revelation of the involvement of the mother was surprising, even though something definitely felt off about her, that took the cake.
