Pretty surprised that this is actually markedly less creepy than the American remake. Characters are even less likeable than Naomi Watts; at one point, Ryuji smacks his ex-wife due to her experiencing mild anxiety at the prospect of being murdered by a TV ghost.
The grainy, pixelated video feels more authentic as a haunted tape, and there is something especially eerie about taking these mundane, everyday settings and creepifying it with the looming supernatural threat. While the green-blue filter and…

Spooky, effective, and visually unsettling. Has that early-2000's blue filter look over it. Not a lot of likeable characters, unfortunately. Was fun watching Brian Cox die.
