The Iron Claw 2023
The immensity of that grief, the scale of that loss, it’s hard to wrap your mind around. Perhaps that’s why the camera was kept at distance so often; the tragedy staged within a roped square, and we’re up watching from the stands. But it also felt like trepidation. Scared to envelop that grief in a bear hug, some of the should-be sadness felt kind of empty, but in a way that reflected unfamiliarity, not the numbness of loss. I felt sad because of the inspiration, not the story.
