A surprisingly affecting thriller that delivers all the grit you came for with evocative, atmospheric cinematography.
I’ve seen it described as formulaic & shallow - To me, the rather classic plot made the underlying raw ‘humanness’ all the more poignant. Sure, thrillers love the morally grey. But this film shows the contradictory and morally multifaceted ways of its characters in a more realistic, ordinary manner. And this portrayal of their respective relationships and value systems as complex was ultimately a delicate, empathetic one.
