I almost didn't watch this because I had been so disappointed in the first (I feel that it failed to live up to its gimmick and got repetitive quickly) but this one was a massive improvement. This movie goes out of its way to make sure every splatter is fresh and new. It does belabor the point a bit per victim, but it's also a bit silly to complain about extensive gore sequences in a movie by and for gore…
An underrated and visually stunning Vincent Price movie, perfect for Phantom of the Opera fans who prefer the Trap-Door Lover to the Angel of Music. Always a delight.
I deeply love all the Universal monster movies, but overall I think this holds up the best as a complete film. Every shot in this movie is striking and beautiful, Boris Karloff bring it all not only in his distinctive appearance but in his vulnerable and sympathetic acting choices, and of course Frankenstein's electrical equipment is probably the most visually iconic mad scientist lab of all time. Not much to say except thank you.

Continually distracted from the narrative by the beauty of the rats. Such sweet creatures! Wonderful actors.
Willard's mother was obviously not one to read fairy tales, or he might not have considered his "dearest friends" so disposable. Why is he so consistantly cold to Ben while cherishing Socrates? He's pitiable enough to begin with, but by the time the ending "twists" there's nothing left to say for him.
