  I saw this as a 22 year-old for the first time last night — and am so upset that I have never seen it before. There are so many pockets of gold within this film (brilliant comedic timing, punctual sound design, stellar pacing), but Patinkin’s line just takes the massive cherry on top. This movie illustrates the potential and power of a creative’s mind — the route a director chooses amongst a map of choices — and Reiner shows that he chose the one. The only one that does justice by Goldman’s artistry.

  Life is pain, but it’s less painful with this film by your side.
