Leave No Trace 2018
beautifully shot & emotionally moving- this movie forces you to see life from opposing perspectives while villainizing neither and showing the beauty and kindness in every character along the way. :)

this movie was such a beautful but tragic slow burn. everything about it feels a little blurry and out of reach, like a childhood memory. the contrast of sophie idolizing her dad but also starting to understand his depression and see him as a flawed and fully formed person is so well done- it’s defintely on the slower side but the emotional build is there!

this movie strikes such a difficult balance between being campy and entertaining but also making you feel deeply for the characters and story. sean baker does such a great job of creating this wild, fun energy and then completely pivoting to the most devastating and emotional moments. mikey madison was so good in this and i loved ani’s mix of confidence and vulnerability, but would have loved for her backstory or motivations to be developed a little more. the last scene was incredible and cemented the pathos of the movie and ani’s character perfectly to me.
