  "You ever listen to women talk, man? Do you?" The way this watches people move around town and through rooms. John Cheever's "The Swimmer", but with L.A. rooms and shabby in-between green spaces. Half star withheld because 60s/70s men, btdt, fair or not.

  Extra star for indie effort and one for decent production values, but never quite got off the ground. The use of Mapplethorpe as a sort of neutered, elusive figure / muse didn't work for me, though the actor evoked him pretty well. This was like the fluffy version of the scenes it was trying to depict. Even Rent was grittier... But the effort and earnestness was apparent on the screen.
