The Brutalist 2024
I was fortunate to see this in 70mm. The last film I saw in this format was Oppenheimer, which has soured for me since I saw it. The “great man” genre of biopics and epics have been wrung out to death so I hoped The Brutalist would bring something outstanding. It does not necessarily do anything radical, but its construction of characters, visuals, and music create a thematic marvel about displacement, creative purpose, and the horrors of ‘great’ men.
