  Romeo and Juliet meets Home Alone meets Parasite.

  A little predictable but for a movie I expected to be heavy handed and melodramatic, Sean Baker really struck the right comedic tone.

  This was a really difficult film to review. It’s impossible to decontextualize a film like this from the circumstances around its creation — a daring filmmaker travels to a Ukrainian city besieged by the Russians to tell the stories of ordinary people of Mariupol and eventually pays the ultimate price for his efforts. That this film even exists is a testament to the bravery of the director and the production team, and really is a piece of history.

  Saving Private Ryan meets Ivan’s Childhood, but lazier.

  It’s been 82 years since the first All Quiet On The Western Front film was released, and in those 82 years I think the war genre has been thoroughly picked apart from every possible angle. Once in a while, you get films like Dunkirk and 1917 that refreshingly reinvigorate the genre, but this certainly isn’t one of those films.
