It’s impossible to decontextualize a film like this from the circumstances around its creation — a daring filmmaker travels to a Ukrainian city besieged by the Russians to tell the stories of ordinary people of Mariupol and eventually pays the ultimate price for his efforts.     It’s been 82 years since the first All Quiet On The Western Front film was released, and in those 82 years I think the war genre has been thoroughly picked apart from every possible angle.
