A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night 2014
this movie BANGS. combined the best parts of so many different genres into one film. i particularly thought it was really neat how fully-utilized tension was; it was used as an instrument amplifying suspense simultaneously in the categories of horror and romance. not only did i love how this contributed to ambivalent expectations, but the trans-genred nature of the film made it uniquely able to subvert expectations. also main characters are super hot.

it mostly fucking sucked. way too long, and despite setting up cat woman to be lesbian af with russian baddie Annika, cat woman swapped spit with batman. THEY HAD NO CHEMISTRY. i did really like the riddler bc he was based, and also paul dano has a cute wittle baby face. instead of batman fighting against the riddler they should’ve become bfs. but batman is shit head billionaire with no class consciousness — the riddler deserves much better. overall, this movie was not saved by robert pattinson’s hotness. it had potential, but in the end just pedaled cringe ass not-all-cops, save-the-system centrist bullshit.
