    STRONG 5.

in light of the apparent comparisons between Yojimbo and A Fistful of Dollars, i am more appreciative of akira kurosawa's influence, but less forgiving of how dated kurosawa's films look (and, more importantly, sound).

    DECENT 7.

the gray skies work well with capturing the atmosphere of Memories of Murder. its indicative of rural asia.

given the incompleteness of the hwaseong serial murders (on which this film was based on), the movie gives a tragic yet not wholly satisfactory ending to the film. still, even with the case's inherent incompleteness, there could've been more to flesh out what happens to some of these characters. but i guess bong joon ho just really didn't have much to work off of here.

    LIGHT 8.

Tangled (and maybe a Frozen or a The Lego Movie) had a GRASP on my upbringing. i used to watch the first forty-ish minutes of this movie OVER and OVER AGAIN whenever i went out for a family dinner because my dad had it downloaded on his work tablet.

and it’s kind of jarring to see how this movie has probably (?) affected some deep-rooted tendencies in me. i mean, of course there are ideologies here that MIRROR…
