  I can't say I was especially invested in the rather thin story here, but the flick (sic) gets to four stars for me on sheer style. I'm a sucker for that Melville silver-blue sheen.

  The showcase Cate Blanchett's brilliance deserves. Only Blue Jasmine comes anywhere close in her past decade of roles. I was utterly absorbed for the entire, substantial run-time. It's a character study, meditation on 'cancel culture,' a vicarious immersion in the world of top-flight classical musicians. Each of these aspects is virtuosically executed, though I'm still reflecting on how and whether they fully cohere. The ending is a masterful sucker punch to the gut.
