as a lover of robert pattinson, okja, and a well placed elliott smith needle drop, i really
enjoyed this. i do think it could have benefited from cutting the fake out dream sequence near the end, but that might be something to keep it faithful to the book.

i think i get it, the whole “two sides of the same coin” thing. the ego of a man who can’t stop working to love the people he allegedly dedicates his life to. it kills them all, even the ones who do end this movie alive. they can’t let it go and they push away anyone who could empathize and love them. i see why this is a movie people seem to watch with their dads.

this is a really fun one. i have a thin line for hectic and anxiety-inducing stories, and this is a really good example of the kind that doesn’t piss me off. i wasn’t sold at first, but i liked it more as it unfurled. i think the movie was shot well, and i enjoyed the casting. like damn, that billy crystal was spot on (says someone who just watched “when harry met sally” for the first time), and that chevy chase was very punchable. i don’t know much about dan akyroyd but i loved seeing dylan o’brien. and lamorne morris! fun to be had.

i wasn’t sure what to expect with this movie. i remember watching the trailer online when it was gaining traction online, and i thought “oh cool, i remember candle cove. wonder what they’re gonna do with that.” then hearing rave reviews lately online about the trans allegory, i thought “wait how did they trans a creepypasta?”

this movie has a lot of cool ideas, and i LOVED the first half of it. i think i just wasn’t sold on it…
