The Exterminating Angel, besides being a surrealist movie, shows us the primitive side of the bourgeoisie when faced with a difficult situation, revealing their incapacity to maintain their good manners.
When the characters find themselves trapped in a room of a mansion, we see a psychological and social prison, as the guests are bound by the conventions of their own way of life. No one is capable of taking the first step to leave because it would seem inappropriate. Moreover, people tend to follow patterns, even in absurd situations.
They are rich but unable to handle a crisis.
