The way this movie managed to portray its thugs in very human, cartoonish bafoonery yet still allow them menace was really impactful. Funny and scary coexisting. Add that to the general infantalization of all the young adults or characters of lower status as soon as someone of higher status appeared was a really strong feeling to grab onto. The performances across the board felt super lived in and textured.

This was super fun, I loved the grounded take on abusive relationships mixed among the chaos of a comedy revenge thriller. The performances were great and it was fun throughout. The plot is good but I especially liked how much it kinda of gets out of the way of the plot to engage with the emotions of the characters in a fun and interesting way

Wicked 2024
Wicked’s never been my favorite musical, and this movie was a solid adaptation that didn’t really change that. Ariana Grande’s approach to performative goodness and conflict between the mask and the self in Galinda was a standout performance. There’s a loneliness she captures well. The very prescient anti-fascist political plot and juxtaposition of wicked labeled good and good labeled wicked present a really fun twist on the original Wizard of Oz story. Excited to see how they switch things up and add on to act 2 for the second movie.
