The Cabin in the Woods 2011
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I was not at all interested in seeing Cabin in the Woods. Unlike many of my friends, I think Joss Whedon has made some serious crap in his career. But this year was a good one for Joss, in my opinion, The Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers were solid films.
Once I'd heard that no, this movie is not just a slasher film, and yeah, it's got a pretty un-horror film cast, full of Whedon's signature pop-culture references…

Prometheus 2012
I don't think I've ever been so let down by a film. I was incredibly excited for Prometheus, but what I ended up seeing was basically more hole than plot. The robot is the most human character. The only scene that actually pulls you in is book-ended by the dullest, dialogue heavy, superfluous bits. Why the hell were Guy Pierce and Charlize Theron even cast? They're both unimportant bit-parts. The film is fairly nice to look at, except the pre-humans…
