Put your fucking phone down and focus on the big screen for a few hours. It won’t kill you, I promise.

    Top notch 90s thriller.

This is going to need a rewatch.

“Hollywood” doesn’t have a spell on me so I don’t usually invest well in films that feature it as a main character, so I was skeptical coming in to this, even though I knew very little about the plot. (I’ve no idea how I made it this long)

There’s two films in here fighting for attention and I don’t think it’s doing either any favours.

    Arrival is perfect.

There’s not many films out there that get to be both a sci-fi, alien film while simultaneously portraying such a heartbreaking, heartwarming, emotionally complex, human story. Some exist, they’re often either great at one and bad at the other.

Arrival dances that line with perfect balance. It’s a beautiful drama. The aliens are intriguing, overwhelmingly so, and as always when Villeneuve gets to stretch his legs, the visuals and sounds are quite frankly second to none. For my money, no director creates such imposing and beguiling scenes.

    Arrival is perfect.

    Rewatched ahead of Furiosa

When I first saw this film I didn’t realise I was holding my breath for the entire first act into the first fade to black after the storm.

This time, I knew what was coming and still felt the tension and adrenaline.

Just an incredible action film from start to finish. Every scene oozes tangible style and substance, largely down to the use of practical effects and Junkie XL rocking the soundtrack.

I don’t think a better action film has been made since and I doubt many will ever top this for me.
