The Monkey 2025
The loudest I’ve laughed during a movie in years…
“Goosebumps” & “Are You Afraid of the Dark”, mixed with “Final Destination.”
A campy, gory, inventive, and fun throwback. Plus, sub 100 minutes.

We Live in Time 2024
Great chemistry between leads. The time-skipping nature never lets one get too high or too low, while also knowing there’s an urgency to what’s happening on screen.
Left me in a puddle by the end. More drama than romantic comedy…the comedy is almost more gallows humor. But that’s my jam, so I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Brutalist 2024
What an experience. I'm still thinking about it days later, and I can't quite solidify my thoughts yet, but here goes.
I think it's at its best when it explores the uncomfortable connection between art and commerce. The artist who needs and hates his patron to make his masterpiece, and the patron who envies and yet can't help but try to control the artist.
That would have been enough for any film, but this movie also covers the immigrant experience…

Flow 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Had some time to kill, my local independent theater (shout out Belcourt in Nashville) was showing this. I figured “hey, 85 min cartoon about a cat, why not!”
85 minutes later, tears streaming down my face, damn! What a f***ing cartoon about a cat! Not one word of dialogue. Killer soundtrack. And brilliant. A hero’s journey mixed with allegories and metaphors and meditations on the impermanence of nature, balance, trust, and friendship.
Wild Robot was my favorite animated movie this year…and this might be even better.
