Clearly the best scene is Johnny Cash is getting into his car, accidentally forwarding into a parked car, accidentally reversing into a parked car, and then getting out of his car like nothing happened.
What an epic movie.
There is a lot of minutiae in the book that the movie actually manages to capture quite well -- Villeneuve was able to translate a lot of cool background details to the screen.
Two smaller nitpicks:
- I wish they spent more time in the final battle/Paul becoming emporer/ the fremen takeover of Arrakis
- I don't like Chani's movie storyline and I wish it stayed closer to the book
I also love how after the…
WHY DO THEY KEEP CHECKING TO SEE IF PEOPLE ARE INVALID??? Are there really that many people who are doing the fake identity thing? You'd think that once someone turned out to be valid their DNA probably wouldn't change too much afterwards.
Donna thought that it could be because they were also checking for drugs or alcohol (like they did in the very beginning), but we couldn't get over how stupid it was that they kept on validating people's DNA.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
So many thoughts on this movie:
- Too Hollywood, too green-screeney
- The fake ass CGI monkeys killed me
- Paul Mescal just doesn't have the same oomph that Russel Crowe had. Russel in Gladiator is iconic - you know in order to compete, the casting for Gladiator 2's main character had to be spot on and perfect, and it just wasn't
- The final battle between Denzel and Paul was weak as hell
- I don't believe that every single Roman soldier would blindly follow Paul after that extremely mid speech
- Ed Sheeran did amazing in his breakout role of Emperor Caracalla
