The Zone of Interest 2023
SPOILER ALERT. The film stands out from other World War II dramas in that it does not show the perspective of the victims or later victors, but exclusively that of the perpetrators. Thus Auschwitz-Birkenau is not more then the employer of a loving and career-minded family man. The ingenious twist in the movie is that not even once the atrocities in the camp itself are shown. Club Zero 2023
Every time they said "hammm", I wanted to say "cheese". Beautiful photos, great acting and good editing but the reasons for anorexia and sectarianism (for me the two main topics of this movie) are in my opinion more complex then the film makes it appealing. Malgorzata Szumowska's film "Body" does more justice to the seriousness and complexity of anorexia. The Wes Anderson style seemed out of place here in large parts.
