mollie burkhart in the basement after the house bombing is my favourite scene of the year.
absolutely gut-wrenching vocalisation. the scream of years of murder and decades of disposession. the worried children around her who in her moment of grief go entirely silent.
ernest stares down from the stairs in disbelief and pain. he is genuinely hurting from the turmoil his wife is in - turmoil he helped put her in. the house bombing he helped planned not three days earlier. seemingly repressing the cause-and-effect that led to this moment.
ernest loves his wife mollie. that's what makes him so scary.
