Just Before Nightfall 1971
My first impression of Claude Chabrol, and I love it.
"Just Before Nightfall" is about Charles Masson (Michel Boquet) murdering his best friend's wife while being in an affair with her, and with him having to deal with his sense of guilt for wrongdoing both his wife and his best friend.
The best the movie has to offer is its gripping performances and sense of silence, which plays together so well that I have to discuss both things at once.…

The Raid 2011
Really expected more out of it, but oh well. The choreographies are amazing, but I can't really be convinced by the scenery, here. You have a bunch of gangsters that are clearly coming from poor circles, yet they fight flawlessly like MMA all stars. To me, The Raid should have implemented different fighting styles between the cops and gangsters. A central point of the movie is the different upbringings anyway, so they might as well all fight like they are.…
