The opening scene with the sort of march of salarymen going to the trainstation feels like a modern movie.
I guess Ozu nce again succeeded in showing a certain group of people their 'modern' lifestyle, and contrasts that with the older generation, all within a domestic marriage story.
He also contrasts the life of a wage slave with that of an independent worker. All this without giving a judgement on which is better.

Mooiste samenwerking van Jarmusch en Robby Muller die ik heb gezien.
Ik was blij dat net als Stranger than Paradise dit een poëtische film is met een rustige tempo, tussen deze films heeft hij met Müller namelijk wat meer komische films gemaakt. Heel veel terugkerende metaforische elementen, heel mooi geschreven.
