Thought I was going to have a harder time with the always insufferable Robert Pattinson, but the role of a hapless moron fit him well. Would have liked it more if they cast anyone else in his place.

Brought the kids to see Transformers then hung out at the arcade next door. What is this, 1986?

Funny to see the animators struggle with the decades-old decision to make the lead hero a fucking tractor trailer, the lamest possible means of conveyance short of a Geo Tracker.

It’s refreshing to see a kids movie in which the protagonists are organizing a miners’ union instead of being super cops.

I muddled through somehow… No thanks to Judy Garland, the embodiment of cloying Americana. With a cocked head and a dead-eyed stare that never seems to match her facial expression, she always seems mentally unwell. If they cast anybody else it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. The color on the nitrate Technicolor print was phenomenal. For most of the film I found myself enjoying the colors of the dresses more than the content. But I would have loved an entire film about the goth little sister.
