Nothing here felt surprising or interesting. Eggers’ stuff is actually kinda soulless i’ve noticed; between this and The Northman, I find myself not emotionally invested at all. His revered and idiosyncratic strong use of atmospheric dread is also getting increasingly less potent after every film.
The first sentence in my review of Anora sums up this film. It could’ve literally been cut in half.
Flat, forgettable and surface-level melodrama. Some good moments of directing tho, really loved how the film portrayed the initial panic and anxiety following the accident, those shots and layers of performance were the only times the film operated at a subtle level with inspired intentions. Everything else was as bland as you’d expect.
