With the skill of the cast and crew and the subject matter, its impossible not to be touched, moved or affected by the subject matter involved here, and song kang-ho in particular always seem to have such an endearing quality in the characters he portrays to me. Unfortunately, this is one about the journey rather than the destination, as the ending is a huge letdown in storytelling that makes the rest of the film seem more poorly thought out and less impactful as a result. Rly liked it until its climax/conclusion.

Very hard to watch this and not feel so sad that we lost Gandalfini too soon. Michael Imperioli from the sopranos apparently couldn't watch the movie because the charming, understated, self deprecating character he plays is too close to the real thing. Such an endearing performance. Toni Collete as usual is great in everything, and strong performances from Catherine Keener and Louis-dreyfuss. Feel like the script just fell a bit short, particularly around the film's conclusion, but an enjoyable ride otherwise.

Finally got round to seeing the film adaptation and though it is thoroughly watchable, every single one of the departures from the book are terrible decisions that detract from the story and really limit the film. I think the rating might be a bit generous, as it struck me watching it that I think the film's depiction of Richard as a perfect sociopath is completely unintentional and at odds with the book by the sounds of it.
*Edit* a whole star is for Paterson Joseph appearing as keaty and reminding me of peep show and green wing !
