  Cutesy and colorful and we stan Haley Lu and Barbie. But also...can’t help but feel a little puzzled when a movie trying very hard to be woke-but-also-cheeky uses the magical black character trope. And 3/4 of any interesting characters just disappear never to be heard from again. Where’s the tall hot tattooed racecar-driving-at-the-Texas-state-fair lesbian?! I need more Betty Who!

  I appreciate this movie making the abortion conversation in film more accessible, and tying it nicely into other themes of family, sisterhood, and acceptance, but Never Rarely Sometimes Always knocked it out of the park earlier this year. 

  Anyways I’m glad that I don’t live in Missouri.
