Such a heartbreaking and beautifully sad film. Wenders creates such a vivid feel and emotion throughout every scene. And the cinematography is crazy. So warm and empty, beautiful and dull.
Even better on the second watch.
From a filmmaking standpoint this movie is nearly flawless. The cinematography is beautiful and every shot is crafted to really show the harshness of everything going on.
I can't say I enjoyed this film though. This movie is incredibly rough to watch and I would say it doesn't have a single happy moment throughout. Instead it is an onslaught of suffering and pain for nearly 3 hours.
I was however very surprised when Stellan Skarsgård and Harvey Keitel amoung others…

The way Walter Salles brings you into the Paiva family and shows you their lives is so beautiful. I really felt so connected and invested in the family. Making the rest of the movie so much more impactful and devestating.
Jason Takes Manhattan, but instead of Jason its bugs! And they live in the sewer! And they haven't just came to New York on a boat from Camp Crystal Lake!
I dont know what to say about this film... Pretty good creature feature, some bad CGI but some cool moments. Definitely the weakest of the 3 Guillermo Del Toro films I've watched today but still pretty fun.
Not a lot like Jason Takes Manhattan either...
