Lord of Misrule 2023
Lord of Misrule feels like it’s aiming to land somewhere in between Midsommar and The Ritual. Both well made folk horror films for different reasons. Lord of Misrule struggles with the “well made” part. The best compliment I can give it is that the cinematography wasn’t too bad. Other than that, the pace feels rushed and a bit disjointed. Oculus 2013
I really enjoy Mike Flanagan as a filmmaker and with this being one of his earliest works, you can see his progress from this to something like Midnight Mass. I enjoyed Oculus but I do have my issues with it, some being trademarks of Flanagan. Oculus feels like two movies spliced together.
