  Yamada Naoko is a genius.
  When the film ends, you sigh, but the tightness in your chest doesn't go away. That's it. This film, every single shot is so meticulously crafted, the animation so detailed, the movement of the characters (especially their legs), so easy to overlook yet so important, the watercolor animation, the ambient sounds from the actual school incorporated into the soundtrack by Ushio Kensuke. It all comes together to form a beautiful melody of film, in my opinion Kyoto Animation's finest work, the lovechild of one of modern anime's finest directors: Liz and the Blue Bird.

  This is a movie where a fast-moving object moving past the camera didn't make the camera artificially shake. If anything, I love Dune for leaving out this immersion breaking trope.
