  This was the first Tarkovsky film and I must say he was a deeply profound film director who has made a significant impact on me. This science fiction masterpiece set out to rival kubrick's 2001 space odessey, however the impact of that film on the history of cinema will always be significant and I enjoyed it very much but Solaris exceeds its rival in many aspects. The characters and the story are deeply compelling and the dialogue is drenched with philosophy. The cinematography and set design was really good considering the budget.
