Eh... no thank you, chef. I'm typically a pretty generous horror audience — I can overlook a lot and still thoroughly enjoy myself if the kills are creative/creepy enough, but sadly even those were underwhelming (with the exception of one - the bean bag scene was gloriously horrifying). Underwhelmed is probably how I would sum up how I feel about this movie in general. It was sloooooow and I was barely interested until the last 20 minutes. And the 'twist' was also meh.
LOVED the puppet show, though. Honestly, I'd watch an entire creepy production of that.

Hmm. Intriguing. I like what this film was generally trying to do, and found it mostly compelling, but there were a lot of themes and narrative threads at play which weren't all explored to their full potential. So the end result didn't leave me particularly satisfied. It mostly succeeded when it came to the main character finding her version of catharsis and liberation through the experience of remounting this deeply personal play, which is probably the most important part. Brilliant. I always enjoy watching Yorgos Lanthimos film, for their bizarre and unique concepts but they also tend to leave me feeling a bit cold. This... I truly connected with. What a journey. I have a lot of feelings about this film and maybe I'll get around to articulating them better but for now I will just say, a perfect matinee for New Year's Eve.
