  great directorial debut from Jesse Eisenberg

  funny, touching, relatable, at times sweet and at other times soul shattering. i saw a few people being disappointed that nothing much happened or that were expecting more but personally, i got exactly what i came for. i didn't care that it never had a huge climax or twist & turns, i'm just glad i got to become part of this messed up yet beautiful family for an hour and a half.

  a movie with no backbone, reminiscent of a wattpad fanfic written by a sexually frustrated divorcee. then in the last act, it tries to turn around and sell us the idea that this whole time, it was actually a feminist commentary on female desire. it's a shame because i think it totally would've been possible to make a good movie about kink, taboos, power dynamics and the shaming of women's sexuality but the execution was poor.
