Whenever I’ve told non-brown people my last name they say “Oh like Star Trek!” about 20-25% of the time, and then they occasionally proceed to do their best Shatner impression. An exciting, engaging, and (relatively) grounded MCU entry for the first hour and 30 minutes... which unfortunately gets brought down to just solid/fine thanks to a clunky and ugly climax. I'd be shocked if the (reportedly extensive) reshoots for this movie were not entirely for that climax. Despite the central story feeling less gripping than the other Grisham adaptations I've seen, this is still a solid movie. It has the same tone shift issues as The Firm, but it feels less jarring here for whatever reason.
This also doesn't feel very Coppola-esque, though maybe I just need to watch more of his work for it to fit in.
