Megalopolis 2024
Adolescent, misogynistic garbage from a great director with many excellent actors taking part. It’s a cloudy script with cardboard women who only serve to celebrate male domination as either mother or gold-digging whore. One star given for taking creative risks with narrative, even though they did not pay off, and an over-the-top ridiculous performance by Aubrey Plaza, who seemed to know she was in a mess of a film and had fun with being cast against type. Really entertaining mashup of twisted romance/superhero movie/demented musical. I loved every weird moment of this. I will say first Joker was more complex and interesting, but I found this less deep but more surreal musical truly engaging start to finish.
